Do You Have a 5-Year Plan … but not a 5-Day Plan?

I don’t think I’m letting you in on a big secret when I say that entrepreneurs are creation machines.

Because we’re creative, we tend to have have an over blown view of what we must have to be successful:

A lot of products

A weekly podcast

And a big blog.

And of course a YouTube channel and an Instagram and …

… it goes on.

And so we create a massive strategic success plan … that we promptly get lost in.

And have absolutely no chance of achieving.

I call this having a five-year plan but not a five-day plan:

You know exactly what your business is gonna look like once it gets off the ground.

You just have no idea how to get it there.

The problem is: Your ambition is writing checks your hustle can’t cash.

So I want to give you a couple simple ideas to help you avoid that massive sink hole.

Go ahead and create that Mega-Awesome, Visionary Five-Year-Plan. And then put it on the shelf.

And don’t look at it again until you start on the breakthrough offer that’s going to make the Five-Year Plan possible.

I call that offer The Mothership.

Your Mothership is ONE highly profitable, highly desirable project or product that your market wants and will pay for.

That will give you the momentum and revenue that’s the foundation for your rapidly growing profitable business.

It not only supplies an injection of cash, it forges a recognizable identity in the marketplace. So people see you as someone who can:

Not only provide a big outcome

But do it in a distinctive way.

Notice it’s not a whole bunch of stuff. It’s one thing.

That not only sets you apart, but becomes a cash cow you can roll out over and over.

Which leads to the crucial characteristic that makes your Mother Ship fly:

You won’t be able to build on the success of your Mothership unless it’s scalable.

That means your can roll it out over and over again, to an ever expanding audience, without taking yourself to the wall every single time.

That’s why it’s called The One Bite Breakthrough.

It’s a high value flagship … but one you can launch repeatedly with predictable outstanding results. While still leaving  you with enough in the tank to expand other areas of your business.

So you’re not racheting up the pressure to create a historic mega-product that’s going to drain you and leave you with energy for little else.

So what was once your ceiling becomes your floor. And you avoid the burn out trap that afflicts so many outwardly successful business owners.

When you combine them, The Mothership and The One Bite Breakthrough – build up reserves of revenue and time so you have the resources to grow and scale. To hire staff and support.

And ensure you’ll have enough left in the tank to enjoy the ride and thrive as you grow.

So by all means make that big ambitioius five-year plan! And then put it on the shelf so you can focus on the one thing that’s going to ensure you actually achieve it.
