“The words were right on the tip of my tongue … “

And then they weren’t.

Yep, it’s another tearing-your-hair-out night trying to dash off that email, post or lading page that’s a winner.

Except what’s coming out of your head sounds like what you’ve heard a thousand times before.

The answer is to have a full tank of conversion-friendly words & phrases BEFORE you need them.

And there are 9 categories of copy – I call them Trigger Words – that not only make your messaging come alive. But ignite the inspiration that elevates the energy (and response) to every thing you post.

I’ve taken three of the most important and crafted prompts you can use in your favorite AI copy tool to deliver that conversion ignition spark.

So you can generate 5 or 15 or 30 of the words and phrases you need to turn skeptics to sales in seconds.

Before we start …

You might be asking: Which AI do you recommend?

The two I use most often are Chat GPT and Claude.

What’s the difference?

Well … I used to prefer Claude because it seems to have a creative heart and a real flair for fun and fresh marketing copy.

Yeah, I know it’s a machine. But Claude has come up with some stuff that makes me feel they found a way to infuse it with real talent and a touch of creative mischief.

But the recently released Chat GPT 4o has been a pleasant surprise.

HOT TIP 1:
Use both – and see which comes up better for you.

HOT TIP 2:
Not every suggestion from the AI will float your boat. But it comes up with a lot of suggestions FAST. So even if only 30% of the 40 suggestions it generates are spot on, the advantage that gives you is huge.

CREATE CURIOSITY

Almost nothing deepens your prospects’ interest and grabs hold of their imagination like curiosity.  The sense of an impending mystery about to be solved is a powerful hook that can deepen their interest in your offer.

INITIAL PROMPT:

“Act as a masterful marketing copy writer, skilled at creating emotionally compelling copy that moves people to buy. I am looking for words or short phrases that create curiosity.  That grab hold of a prospect’s imagination and instill intrigue to deepen interest in my offers. Please come up with 25 words or short phrases that fulfill this goal.”

It’s rare that every word or phrase will be a home run.  A cool trick is to identify the one result that really connects with you, tell the AI exactly what you liked about it, and ask it to create more options like the one you like best in a follow-up prompt.

FOLLOW-UP PROMPT:

I really like [ the specific result you liked best ]. It conveys [ elaborate on exactly what you liked about it – the more specific direction you can give it, the better ]. Please come up with 15 additional phrases that capture that spirit.
.

OPTIONAL ADDITION:

In the original prompt you can focus the response further if you briefly describe the nature of the offer. Example:

.
* Home study course on email list building.

* A six-week program on monetizing social media

* A revolutionary approach to fitness and weight loss

CAPTURE ATTENTION

These are kinetic, exciting words that capture your viewers attention by conveying buzz, excitement and the possibility of a positive outcome. These are multi-purpose Trigger Words you can sprinkle throughout your messages to make they fly off the page.

INITIAL PROMPT:

“Act as a masterful marketing copy writer, skilled at creating emotionally compelling copy that moves people to buy. I am looking for kinetic, exciting words or short phrases that capture my prospect’s attention by conveying buzz, excitement and the possibility of a positive outcome. Please come up with 25 words or short phrases that fulfill this goal.”

I found this prompt was highly effective, and didn’t need a follow-up.  Though if you’d like you can ask for more options matching the one you like best, using a similar follow-up prompt that you used for Curiosity.

SOMETHING AMAZING IS HAPPENING!

We all love it:  That sense of anticipation and expectation for something fresh, new and exciting that’s about to change our life! These words awaken those feelings in your prospects, which helps to engage, maintain and sustain their interest.

INITIAL PROMPT:

“Act as a masterful marketing copy writer, skilled at creating emotionally compelling copy that moves people to buy. I am looking for words or short phrases that ignite a compelling sense of anticipation and expectation for something fresh, new and exciting that is about to be unveiled. That has the power to change their life. Please come up with 25 words or short phrases that fulfill this goal.”

Every result the AI returns is not going to be a fit for your style or offer.  As with the first prompt, you can single out the one result that works best, tell the AI exactly what you liked about it, and ask it to create more options like the one you like best in a follow-up prompt:

FOLLOW-UP PROMPT:

I really like [ the specific result you liked best ] because [ the primary reason you preferred it ]. Please come up with 15 additional phrases that capture that spirit.

In some cases (especially with Claude) some of the results may feel too poetic and over the top. If that’s the case, you can ask a follow-up prompt to tone it down:

OPTIONAL ADDITION:

Thank you for these results. They feel a bit too poetic / creative / ethereal / lofty [ insert your preferred descriptive words here ]. Could you try again – and create 15 more – but tone it down, so you’re really emphasizing the sense of anticipation, but without being so poetic?

So … it’s time to roll these out!

What’s such a huge plus about these prompts is you can:

  • Use them to get a list of options quickly (in a minute or less).
  • Use them on something you are working on now. You don’t need to wait until you’re diving into some massive project to have them work with you.
  • These trigger word categories are a small sampling of the nine trigger word categories I have identified.

If you would like to see prompts on the other Trigger Word Categories in a future blog post, let me know by leaving a comment below.
